Frequently Asked Questions

What is Carradine’s Cockney Sing-a-long?

Carradine’s Cockney Sing-a-long is a joyful, interactive live music experience celebrating classic Cockney, Music Hall and wartime songs along with slightly more modern sing-a-long classics from the likes of ABBA, Queen and the Beatles, and the West End stage. Led from the piano, it’s all about getting everyone singing together - no performance pressure, just warmth, laughter and shared voices.

How long does a Cockney Sing-a-long usually last?

Most events last around two hours, typically split into two 45-minute sets with an interval. I usually recommend allowing 30–45 minutes beforehand for guests to arrive, settle in and grab a drink — it really helps set a relaxed tone before the singing begins.

DO WE NEED A PIANO?

No, I’m fully self-contained, bringing my own keyboard (disguised in a vintage piano shell). This also means that I can perform upstairs where there isn’t lift access. Everything packs down into easily carriable pieces.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO SET UP?

Ideally I like to be set up in advance of any guests arriving. This means that all my untidy travelling cases and extra gear are tidied away and I’m ready to welcome the guests. This usually takes about 30 minutes, depending on how close my van is to unload.

Do people need to be good singers?

Not at all. Absolutely no singing experience is required! The whole point is joining in. The songs are familiar, easy to pick up and designed to sound great when sung together - even if you think you “can’t sing”.

Do people need to know the songs?

Most people already know more of the songs than they realise. Part of the fun is rediscovering lyrics you haven’t sung for years. Lyrics are alwasy provided (eitehr songsbooks or projhections) but the aim is always to choose songs that feel instinctive and familiar. I always say “I’m doing my job wrong if people need the words”!

What kind of events does the sing-a-long work for?

Cockney Sing-a-longs work brilliantly for:

  • Pubs and bars

  • Theatres and arts venues

  • Private parties and celebrations

  • Community events and village halls

  • Fundraisers and charity nights

  • Corporate or team-building socials

If people want to relax, sing and feel part of something together, it usually works very well.

What size venues does it suit?

Sing-a-longs work best in cosy, enclosed spaces where people can see the piano and feel close together. Pubs, clubs and halls are ideal. Very large or outdoor spaces can work too, but usually need a bit more thought to keep the atmosphere intimate.

Do you bring your own equipment?

Yes. I’m fully self-contained and bring everything needed:

  • Keyboard (disguised in a vintage piano “shell”)

  • PA system and microphone

  • Lyrics (songbooks or projector / screen)

All you need to provide is the space and the audience. I do require access to a single 13amp plug socket and parking for my Transit-sized van.

Can the sing-a-long be tailored to our audience?

Absolutely. Every sing-a-long is slightly different. I read the room, adapt the set list, take requests where possible and shape the event to suit the audience - whether that’s a gentle, nostalgic night or a full-blown knees-up.

Can we include food, quizzes or raffles?

Yes - and it often works beautifully. Many organisers combine the sing-a-long with:

  • Food (pie and mash, fish and chips, etc.)

  • A raffle or fundraiser

  • A themed quiz or fancy dress

I’m very happy to work around these elements and help the evening flow naturally.

Where do you perform?

Carradine’s Cockney Sing-a-long is based in Tonbridge, Kent and I regularly perform across Kent, London and the South East, including Essex, Sussex, Surrey and Hertfordshire, but I’m always happy to travel further afield by arrangement. I’ve even performed as far away as Middlesborough, Plymouth, the South of France, Malaga in Spain and even two transatlantics crossing on the Queen Mary 2.

How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on the type of event, location and length of performance. The best way to get an accurate quote is to get in touch with a few details about your event - I’m always happy to advise. Drop me a link through my booking page HERE.
